Ocala is located in Marion County FL, the general population is around 55,000 this doubles in the winter months once the winter tourists arrive. Ocala was founded in 1846 by Matthew Hall near Fort King which was a military outpost during the Seminole Wars. The cities name comes from the word Ocali, which is said to mean “Big Hammock”
Ocala is known to locals and tourists as the “The Kingdom of the Sun”. The area is subtropical, summer temperature range from mid to high 80F and winter months mid to low 70F. During the months between Oct-May there is almost no rain. This makes for a very popular area for winter vacationers.

Ocala is known as the Horse Capital of the World, it is approximately 70 miles southeast of Disney World. Silver Springs, FL is nearby most notably known for the world’s largest artesian springs. Silver Spring Nature Theme Park is also located here which is one of the first tourist attractions in Florida.
There are plenty of things to do in Ocala, the city is well known for its diverse shopping attractions. Take a walk around historic downtown there are numerous boutiques, and gift shops. There are also a number of antique shops in the area.
