Lakeland is located in Polk County Florida. The population of Lakeland is approximately 90,000. The city is a municipality of Lakeland-Winter Haven. The town was founded in the 1870’s by Abraham Munn. Munn originally was from Kentucky and bought 80 acres of land which is now the downtown core of Lakeland.
The town was booming early on and is well known for the historic district. Places to visit include the Terrace Hotel, Regency Towers, and the Polk Theatre. Lakeland is also home to the MLB Detroit Tigers spring training camp.
Getting around Lakeland is quite easy; they have local bus service that runs throughout the city called the Citrus Connection. Popular attractions in and around Lakeland include the Lakeland Centre, The Polk Theatre, The Florida Air Museum, and Holis Garden which is a large flower and plant sanitarium they also have beautiful fish ponds as well.

Lakeland is located roughly 35 miles from Tampa and 50 miles from Orlando. This makes the city a popular choice for tourists that want a quiet atmosphere but relatively close by the big attractions such as Disney World, Epcot Centre etc. Lakeland’s neighboring city Winterhaven is a very popular spot for Canadian tourists. Cypress Gardens is a popular theme park for families with small children.
There are a number of restaurants in the area, they have a diverse selection. Popular hot spots include Antiquarian Bay Restaurant, Harry’s Seafood, and Jimbo’s Pit BBQ.
If you decide to travel to Lakeland for a Golf getaway Eagle Brooke is a must play, Lakeland GCC and Wedgewood GC is also very popular. While the men are golfing there women can enjoy numerous unique boutiques for shopping in and around Lakeland. For one stop shopping check out Lakeland Square, this mall has over 100 stores everything from JC Penney to Aeropostale, Macys and Sears.
Celebrity watch, there are a number of athletes and actors and actresses that have come out of Lakeland and also maintain homes here. These include Lou Whitaker (Detroit Tigers) Joe Nemechek (Nascar) Ray Lewis (NFL) Rocco Mediate (PGA).
