Lake Wales is a small city in Polk County Florida. The population is close to 12000. The city is part of the Lakeland-Winter Haven Metropolitan. The city is located in Central Florida west of Kissimmee and east of Tampa.
There is a lot of history in Lake Wales. It was founded in the late 1870’s by a man named Sidney Wailes. At the time the lake in the area was called Lake Watt, he changed the name to Lake Wailes. In the late 1900’s the name of the town was entitled Lake Wales. In the mid 1920’s ACLR or (Atlantic Coast Line Railroad) built a line from Haines City to the Everglades. They added a stop in Lake Wales providing the area with a bit if a boom.
Popular attractions in Lake Wales include Spook Hill. This hill is an optical illusion that makes cars appear to be rolling up hill. Chalet Suzanne is another tourist attraction, it was once known as the Carleton Club. Bok Tower Gardens is another great attraction. Throughout the year they have a wide variety of concerts, and social events.
Dining out in Lake Wales provides great southern hospitality charm. Every visitor should check out the Suzanne Country Inn, or the La Bella Torre, for pubfare check out The Crazy Cuban, or the Highlander Bar and Grill. After a nice meal, you can check out a show at the Arts Centre, or the Little Theatre.
