Indian Shores is a small town in Pinellas County Florida. The population is roughly 2000, like other small Florida towns the population jumps in the winter months as a result of vacationing tourists.
Indian Shores received its official town designation in 1949 when it was then known as Indian Rocks Beach. In 1973 the name was changed to Indian Shores.
During this time the area was a huge tourist attraction for what was known as Tiki Garden. The sea island paradise housed exotic birds, historic statues and tropical flowers. The theme park closed in the 80’s when a developer bought the area in hopes of building up a large resort. When this fell through town council bought the land back from the developer and created a beach front public parking area.
Tourists and locals flock to the Town Square Nature Park. This area is full of tropical flowers and stretches of long boardwalks through mangroves. Follow the boardwalk down to the pier and the shores for breath taking sunsets. There is an abundance of history in this small town and a number of folklore legends of the older native settlers in the area.
